STARTING POINT
This is a room that reflects the kid's interest. Is should be designed in a way that stimulates creativity and encourages play, so let your imagination run wild and have fun. Try to keep the kids involved in the decoration process. By taking cues from your child's interest, you can create a more personalized environment. Because this is a place of rough play, try to have sturdy furniture and no fuss furnishings. You can add character and give color in the sheets, walls etc.

ARRANGEMENT
Decide on the look you want to achieve. If the kids are old enough involve them with the decoration process. The main thing about the kid's room is that the furniture has to be sturdy and should have space for closet and bookshelves to keep the room clutter free. Oversize bulletin boards or pegboard are perfect for posters, artwork etc. Open shelves are good for keeping toy trains, airplanes, books and art supplies. A desk with bookshelves is very useful for doing homework and organizing the books. If you are decorating a nursery you will need a safe crib, a rocking chair, a changing table with high rails and shelves for diaper change. Keep the furniture pieces neutral and simple and you can add jazz by colorful walls, washable wallpaper border and the bedding. Always include more storage than initially needed. Everything should be easily cleaned and durable.

YOUNG LOOK
The kid's room should be adaptable enough for all the phases of your child's life. It should have adaptable furnishings and decorating schemes that keep pace with the changing needs and interest. For younger kids buy furniture that is easily wiped like laminates, plastic and painted wood. Add color and texture through walls. Wallpaper rugs. Valance, café curtains are better than full-length draperies. Always use led free paint on kid's furniture.

COLOR
This is one area where you can run your imagination run wild. Washable paints should be used. Try to accommodate your kid's favorite color. You can transform your kids room into a fantasy room with wall size murals in a story book theme or on the ceiling paint the sky, fluffy clouds or stars.
